  2. I feel fine about the changes, honestly, the fact that we don't have to have group projects anymore and go to other peoples houses to make them happen is really nice because I'm shy. I don't really know much about the media right now but I'm assuming that they had something to do with the schools opening back up

    1. Great take! Although I don't think the media had too much to do with schools opening, I think it was more of the government worrying that children had skipped half a year of school and they had to somehow take some sort of drastic measure.

    2. I defenitally agree with your views!!

  3. I find that when going back to school I really thought the rules were gonna be more strict. I also find that the social distancing rules generally make sense but aren't enforced too much which kinda makes me worry a little. Except for that I am not the biggest fan of the one homeroom thing but I completely understand that's its for corona virus prevention. For the media kinda like what Teegan said I do also feel that the media convinced parents that school was gonna be really safe(not saying that its not) but made it seem super good.

    1. I fully agree! I thought the school year was going to be so much more stricter than last year, but I also think the rules might not be enforced enough, in my opinion, anyways.

  4. I have mixed emotions about coming back to school. I love that I get to see my friends everyday because I really missed them. I also missed the environment of school, but I most certainly did not miss having homework. I’m okay with all the changes happening and it’s not really affecting me. I don’t mind wearing masks and washing my hands all the time. It’s better than having corona! The media influences a lot because they’re always adding new information, which scares a lot of people and makes them not want to get such a large group of kids together.

  5. The first week back to school had its ups and downs. I found it a lot less stressful to have to stay in only one class and not just have five minutes to go from class to class. I'm starting to get used to having to put on a mask whenever I get up. The changes aren’t too bad, but I think they can improve the social distancing rules a lot more.
I think the media did have a big role in whether we can go back or not because a lot of people believe what they see on social media. In that case, if the social media was saying corona was bad and the schools still opened up I doubt many parents would let their kids go.

    1. I really agree with the fact that we only have to be in one class and we don't have to run around the school from our lockers to our classes. Also I completely agree with your take on the social distancing rules.

    2. Satya, I really agree with you when you talk about how the media influenced whether we were able to go back to school and I Iove how you worded it. Also, I definetly agree that it is a lot less stressful during those 5 minutes in between clas, great job!

  6. This first week of school was defiantly a big change from last years. I like that we are using more technology this year even though when you can't find out how to use the website it makes it pretty stressful but, I dislike that we have to carry around heavy Nap Sacks because we don't have lockers. The sanitizing system and having to wear mask's isn't that big of a problem in my opinion.
I feel that the media were not the one's that made us go back to School I think it was more the School board was going to make us go to school either way.

  7. I think that my first week of school is pretty good. Meeting and seeing my friends again was amazing! Although there are some changes due to Covid-19, it's still nice to see everyone. I don't mind wearing masks anymore, but I do hope that we get lockers soon. Carrying books to and from school is not fun. My school bag now weighs 22 pounds (yes I weighed it.)

Everything on the media was definitely making me really nervous for going back to school. Everywhere you look was something about Covid-19. I asked my mum if she thought it was safe and she didn't have the answer for me. She told me that we were doing everything we could to be safe and so was the school. At first the media did scare me because I didn't know what to expect, but it's turning out to be fine.

    1. I agree that the first week has been going pretty well, and its great that everyone gets to get used to wearing masks since we don't exactly know when this pandemic thing is going to stop.

    2. I completely agree with you, I'm happy too see my friends again, especially more frequently now. Like you said, lockers would be super useful considering all the stuff we have to carry. I feel like if we don't get lockers soon, some of us are going to end up with some serious black problems. It feels like social media is now just a place for corona warnings and updates which causes some stress and anxiety for people but so far everything seems alright.

  8. The first week of school was fun and boring at the same time. Sometimes the classes can feel really long especially because we don't move. It was also fun because I get to see my friends more often. I'm fine with the changes that were made. I don't mind wearing a mask if that means that I wont catch Covid. I really enjoy having my bag with me throughout the day, therefore if I forget something I can easily get it. Although they can be really heavy at times because of all the books. I do think the media had an influence on how I would go back to school such as the negativity of Covid on the news.

    1. I agree about how the classes feel longer and its exhausting to stay in our chair for so long especially since I love to move around. Im so excited to see my friends more often too!

  9. I personally feel that this first week of school was pretty good considering the circumstances. Wearing a mask and sanitizing my hands has personally never bothered me, you get used to it after a day or too. But what has bothered me is the fact that we have to stay in the same class. Now I know that this is a debatable topic, but I love being able to go from class to class and see new and old faces alike, but obviously, this now isn't possible. Another thing that has bothered almost everyone at school is the fact that there is no lockers. You'd think that with all the switching over to devices that we didn't need to carry textbooks and binders all over the place, but no, we actually have more textbooks and workbooks than last year, which I still feel is a wasted opportunity because if we used our device to store a digital version of our textbooks, it would eliminate the need for a heavy schoolbag, as our device would become an all in one binder of sorts.

Onto the influence of the media. Yes I think that the media drastically affects my thoughts about coming back to school. Of course I understand that school is mandatory, but I always feel a sense of unease when I read the news and find that X number of schools have been infected with Covid-19, and I realize the fact that tomorrow, for all we know, our school could be next. Or that in a more recent debate where they were wondering if droplets of air could potentially travel through school vents. So overall, yes, the media changes my opinion somewhat on going back to school, but it doesn't change my opinion so much that I'm pessimistic about the whole situation.

So in conclusion, I think this school year will be a great one despite the challenges ahead!

  10. I think the first few days of school were fine but maybe not as exiting as expected but it was great to see everyone again. Besides seeing my friends I wasent too exited but I understand we need to take the nessary percautions against Covid. I hope we get lockers soon cause thats the only time we can see our friends out of the class also because Its hard to carry our huge bags everyday back and forth. I dont mind wearing masks anymore or putting sanitizer hourly It became normal to me which is great. Im happy to be back seeing my friends and lerning again!

    1. I completely agree with you I really hope we get lockers soon. Carrying all my stuff in my bag has been really tiring and hard on my shoulders. Great job!

    2. Agree too! No lockers is quite disappointing but at least we can leave some stuff in class. This blog was pretty good and well explained. At the last sentence though, you spelled learning wrong. Something I also noticed is I didn't really see how the media influenced you. Other than that good job!

  11. This change has been quite unpleasant. I was happy to see my friends and staff but with all these changes what is fun about high school such as no locker, no traveling to other classes, no library or cafeteria and NO CLUBS!!!! Without all this it makes school sooooo boring. Each day at school feels as though its 20 hours long of absolute boredom. This first week has been so boring and feels like we are in school forever. Plus we have to constantly be so careful with social distancing and sanitizing. It seems as though a debate is starting on keeping the windows open in class...

The media and news really makes me kind of scared about going to school. I listen to the news on my way to school and hearing about all these COVID infections at schools. It scares me to know that we might be the next hit. What if our system is horrible and doesn't work at all? What if these infected schools are using the same system as us? All this gives me a feeling of uncertainty.

So in my humble opinion, my first week of school is has been unpleasant. The only thing that makes it fun is seeing other people.

  12. My first week back to school was kinda fun and kinda stressful. We has to get right into school, it wasn't nice or easy . I miss my friends but i wish we had online school. In some way I feel like it's safer that way. The policy and the rules in general is pretty good. We to have to wear masks and sanitize my hands, etc..
I was kinda excited to see my teachers but after that.. My final say is that I have mixed feelings about school :)

  13. I am not sure how I feel about the new changes in school; they are definitely different than what everyone is used to. I think that the new rules are not very complicated and they are not that hard to get used to. I feel more comfortable with wearing a mask now and I like how we all get to go outside. I think that the teachers and school board should be more strict about keeping the windows open because COVID-19 is an infection in your lungs just like Tuberculosis and when you have Tuberculosis you are supposed to breath fresh air. I think that the Media influences a lot of the decisions that the school board makes because they can't just base the rules off of science because it also matters how safe people feel, and the media is a good way of hearing what people think.

  14. The first week back to school was pretty good. I'm still getting use to everything, washing my hands all the time and wearing a mask. I really like all my teachers, they're super nice. The changes aren't that bad. I don't like that the windows always have to be open all the way. Wearing a mask doesn't really bother me but I'm happy we can take them off in class. I think the media played a big role because most people look at the media all the time and when they said that schools could open up because its safe then most parents will feel safe sending their child to school. I think that the corona will get better and we will be back to normal soon, hopefully:)

  15. My first week at school has been very interesting because I’m still trying to get back into the routine of waking up early and going to school. Going on the bus now because of COVID-19 has been difficult since I now have to wear a mask the entire time. In class it's nice that I can take off my mask and breathe for a bit. Although I get a lot of homework the return to school has been great.
In my opinion the media did not influence me going back to school because on the media it just said the same thing you were hearing and reading anywhere else. I also had been wanting to go to school because staying at home was becoming very annoying and tiring. I needed a change of routine and environment. Going back to school has been amazing since I get to see my friends and learn more.

  16. My first week back to school has been a bit hectic but manageable.I went into school being anxious but also confident because I've learned how to keep organized and focused during quarantine. The social aspect is nice, I've really missed seeing everybody so its fun having this opportunity to reconnect.I don't mind the mask rule and most of the other precautions we have to take for covid but I've struggled with the fact that we have to stay in the same classroom all day since I am a very active person. As for the school work I haven't had much trouble getting back into it. I think there will be a few challenges when the weather starts changing and it gets colder, especially since we keep the windows opened for circulation. Of course with having the news on at home all the time, it does put concerns in my head but overall I trust the school board has everything under control.

  17. I have many different emotions about coming back to school, of course I’m excited to be able to see my friends everyday but I wasn’t so excited when it came to not being in class with them and the school work. The procedures that have been put in place to keep everyone safe have obviously been a huge change themselves. I’m fine with all the rules even if some of them don’t mix well with each other. I think the media has influenced lots of people’s decisions on whether or not to come to school. I tried not to focus too much on what the media said since like most know you get different stories from different media platforms. Overall my first week back has been pretty okay even though I would rather be at home sleeping in late everyday.

  18. My first week back at school was a bit stressful because I knew it was going to be very different from all the other years. It took a while to get completely prepared for everything that was about to happen, but I managed to make it through. During the time off, I learned to manage my time better and I feel more prepared this year than I was last year. Although there were lots of changes, I was happy to see a lot of my friends again after 6 months of not seeing them. The changes in the school don't bother me that much, because I'm used to just sitting in one classroom like elementary school. I think that the media is a big influence on how me and some people feel about back to school, because always having the news on, you see what can happen to people who don't follow the rules set up to prevent the spread of the virus. This can cause people to think differently than they normally do, such as being more careful and always sanitizing, or for some other people, it can result in them being scared to go anywhere because they're scared to catch the virus. Overall, I believe that the school administrators know how to keep all the students safe while in school.

  20. This school year has been pretty good so far considering the circumstances, although it is very different compared to all the other years. It took a few days to fully understand the protocols and to organise all of my classes materials without using binders. I do wish though that I had a locker or a cubby to fit all of my things, even though we don't have binders we still have very thick and heavy books. It is hard to fit everything in our back packs and to carry them is a big struggle. Although having everything in my bag really helps because if I'm missing something I can just reach into my bag and grab it. In my opinion I think the media played a big role on deciding if we were coming back to school or not based on how other schools were doing. I do realise that school is mandatory, but hearing everything on the news scares me cause you never know St. Thomas could be next. In general, are school is doing a pretty good job at protecting us.

  22. In my opinion, the first week back at school had its ups and downs because it was kind of upsetting to see that some of the people I was closest with last year I no longer talk to. However, I love being able to see people every day. I think that the school can improve the bathroom system and the social distancing rules because they're really not the best. One of the things I miss most is walking around the school with my friends in the morning, at lunch, at recess and after school. As far as the covid rules, I still find it a little bit odd that we have to wear masks around the school(I'm just not used to it yet), I find it really annoying that the windows have to stay open even if we're freezing, and I also find it a little annoying that we can't stay at school after school.

In my opinion, the media definitely influenced my parents' decisions about me going back to school because they were worried for my health. But at the end of the day, we have to get back to some type of normal, and it is really good to see people every day.

  23. My first week at school has been quite boring. I was and still am not happy nor excited to be back. The only thing I was looking forward to was seeing my friends and eating caf cookies but obviously I can't do that :( I'm not thrilled about the changes that had to be made because of COVID-19, wearing a mask is kind of annoying. I'd say the media does have a small impact on my opinion of the school situation, like when people post about the rising cases because of school, it gives me a small feeling of unease but so far so good.

  24. My first week of school was pretty good. Nice to meet new people and see my friends. I wish we could have lockers because my bag is way too heavy to lug around. I don't think the media has affected the school as much as it has the students. Some students are legitimately scared of being at school because of what the media says COVID-19 is. It makes it sound like a death sentence when all you really have to do when you have it is stay home. Yes, it's a horrible thing to experience as a senior citizen, but it seems most kids are more scared of getting it than their grandparents for the sole reason that people have died from it

  25. This first week of school has been very long and tiring . It has been a big adjustment with waking up so early, all the homework, managing my sports and school and of course it has been a big adjustment to all of the new rules, guidelines and protocols put in place for this school year. I am starting to get used to the rules such as wearing a mask, staying in the same class the whole day and many more. I do believe that the media has influence going back to school by educating students about all the new rules and guidelines on media platforms such as tiktok ect…

  26. I find it's always the first week of school that always tends to be stressful, getting all of the homework, receiving all of the information, but now it’s even more stressful because we haven't been going to school for over 6 months now. And there are so many more rules regarding to Covid-19, I find it puts pressure on us too. But what I am happy about going to school now is that I got to see all of my friends. During the past week though, I feel like many people have started to get used to wearing masks, carrying our own locker ( even if it weighs as much as us! ) But i do believe that all will be well and we will get through this.

  27. Honestly I was sort of excited to be back at school. I missed seeing my friends everyday and being able to walk the halls of st. Thomas, but the only problem is that I have a lot of people that I am continually in contact with that are immunocompromised, which means that I wouldn't be able to sit in class without wearing a mask. Also, I personally preferred to be able to sit at my desk at home and learn, rather of sitting in an plastic chair that a bunch of other people have sat in. I do think that the media has played a big part of going back to school during Covid. They definitely may have down played how serious this virus can be and how quickly it can spread between a bunch of people. It is really nice to be able to see my friends again, but I would rather spend the next couple of months learning from home to really drive this thing into the ground, rather then have the chance of spreading a virus that could possibly take someones life.
