As of midnight, Montreal is moving into a CODE RED to help prevent the spread of COVID-19.

For the next 28 days montrealers are not permitted to dine out, go to bars, have get togethers, etc.

How do you feel about CODE RED?

Is the Quebec premier making the right decision?

How should they handle people that don't follow the guidelines?

Explain.

Some quick prompts you can use for better blog comments:

-- What can you add from your own experience? Share a relevant story from your life. “This reminds me of a time…”
-- Is there a fact that is relevant to what they said that you could share, that either supports or challenges their point?
-- Ask them a question.
-- How does their ideas make you feel?
-- "I never thought about ___ like that. I used to think…. But now I see/wonder..."

  1. I think that it is a really good idea to be in code red since we are starting school and we are already exposed to enough covid. I think that Quebec is making a good descision as it will probably get worse if we keep going out like it doesn't exist. I think if people are breaking the rules alot that they should be fined or something like that to make it so they stop.

    1. Great blog Teegan! I agree with you that we are more exposed to COVID-19. How much do you think a starting price for a fine should be?

  2. I think Quebec is making a good choice with going into code red. When they started to get more relaxed and let people get together, the numbers started to go back up. Even then, Quebec didn't do much about it. But now, the numbers are skyrocketing so now they stopped allowing people to get together. I think this code red will be fine, except that means no Thanksgiving party or Trick Or Treating. Let's just hope that we can pull it back together before Christmas. If people are not doing as the government says (which there probably are) they shouldn't be tolerated. It's the fact that we have choice. In countries like North Korea, you have to do as the law says or...bad stuff happens. But here in Canada, the most of a punishment you get is your not allowed to go to certain places. I think the punishment's should be more strict like bigger fines or a ban to go to certain places.

  3. I think the code red in Quebec is a clever idea. There are so many covid cases that if we don't have one then the hospitals will eventually overfill. I think with this code red the number of cases will go down tremendously since no one will be going out. I don't believe that this code red will be hard as it is only 1 month although we will miss out on some important events. If people don't follow the rules, they should be told to go home or get fined.

  4. I’m a little nervous about being in code red, it’s very scary thinking that there are people dying because of covid all over the world. I think that the prime minister is making the right decision by closing all bars, restaurants, etc because it reduces contact and it helps try and prevent more covid cases from coming up. I think the people that don’t follow the guidelines should be fined because people are dying from this and not wearing your mask can cost someone's life.

  5. I really don't like the fact that we are going into code red to think that in february it was all a joke and teachers saying that it will not reach he we have nothing to worry about to now almost 7 months after we are now in code red and like 2 cases in are school it is is crazy. I do believe that they are taking some right measures but I believe they could have prevented some of it but not much. Honesty i think people that dont talk the proper measure should be find but i think we should be able to still she a small group of close friends

  6. I think that going into code red is a good idea because recently before we even got in orange people started thinking we could just go back to normal and they would hang out with people without masks and not social distance. Plus the increase in the cases doesn't help. I also think that fining people for not social distancing or gathering should be a thing again. At the same time visits to other people should be done outside and if not then not. With the code red all is closed except for school and I cant say I'm 100% about this because we have bubbles and stuff but at lunch there all broken. Truth is i wanna see my friends but I don't wanna endanger anyone else so its better if I don't.

  7. I feel that code red is a step in the right direction but is not enough. I feel this way because if we look at statistics, when businesses were starting to open, it did increase cases, but not as much as when schools were open. So I feel that this is a step in the right direction, but not enough. The premier is definitely taking a step in the right direction! I feel that some severe punishments should be shown towards people who don't follow guidelines!

  8. Honestly I think that code red and orange are very similar and code red is sounding more alert but there isnt much of a diffrence besides not going into other people's houses and more about hanging out with your friends but it dosent mean anything if police dont inforce it. It bothers me to see how people cant hangout at a house but if they want they can go hangout at a store and it automatically becomes legal. That shouldnt be a possibility. I also dislike very much how it dosent make a diffrence about covid guidlines because ive seen many times people not following the guidelines and theres no one to inforce it. Ive obviously havent followed all covid guidlines by going over to other people's houses but I just feel that in the long run theres no diffrence for code red and orange.

  9. Now that we are in code red I'm a little scared. I was hoping that this would get better but its only getting worse. I think the government is right to go into code red because its spreading a lot. The thing is, its spreading through adults, mostly, not kids. So I agree that bars and restaurants should be closed but not everything. Like all the soccer games are canceled but I feel that it shouldn't. People who are doing the right thing shouldn't be punished. The people who don't follow the rules should be punished with fines, or banned, etc.

  10. I think that it’s a good idea to be going into code red because there are so many people who are having gatherings, going out to restaurants, bars, etc. And they are all getting exposed to other people and then if they visit family, they’re exposing their relatives to other people and that’s how it all spreads, and especially now that everyday, there are tons and tons of new cases for Covid-19 just per day and especially the amount of deaths, it’s pretty crazy. So I definitely think that the Quebec premier is making the right choice for this situation. For punishment of not listening to the guidelines of Covid-19 regulations, they would probably get a fine.

    1. They should honestly get a fine for breaking the guidelines. Yeah you're right for saying that covid spreading just by visiting their family and having gatherings. They should have has code red a long time ago. Good job writing your blog! =D

    2. I comepletly agree that closing bars, retaurants, etc was a great idea to help stop the spread and that the premier made the right desision. Awesome blog and great job!

  11. I feel like Code Red was a good decision. We’re in a middle of a pandemic, yes it sucks, but we have to do EVERYTHING to stop it. You should have been and continue Code Red since the summer to stop the spread of COVID-19 but we didn’t. The fact that the Quebec government left the schools open and running. I get it. You’re trying to keep the economy up but can you at least you can make the classes at 10:00? We’re literally sick and tired all the time, you can at least make one of those thing disappear from our problems. You could have made it better by making us do online school or 1 day off 1 day in school just like the sec 4 and 5. You should at least do something about the school situation-People that don’t follow the guidelines should get punish depending on what they did. If you don’t wear a mask to the store or not social distance, you should get fined. The government should be strict when it comes to the guidelines because people who don’t follow the guidelines can influence and spread the virus to others. <this sounds like a rant and it is :')

  12. In my opinion I think the Quebec Premier is doing the right thing by going to code red but I don't think closing some things and not the others makes too much sense.
I agree that the code red is needed now because of the cases increasing so quickly, and closing restaurants and bars and a lot of meeting places are important as people gather and can get too close to each other but isn't that what we are doing in school now?! We are all sitting so close to each other, we are allowed to take our masks off when we are sitting at our desks. We also, whether we realise or not get pretty close to each other outside at lunch where we are allowed to take our masks off again, but this time we are hanging out with friends from other classes.
So I think if there needs to be a code red, then everything that has people gathering should be closed.

  13. I definitely think that this code red is the right thing to do right now. The COVID-19 cases are going up and things aren't getting better. The premier of Quebec is making the right decision. The people who aren't following the rules are the ones who are making everything worse and I feel like they should be punished. They should be given tickets, the bigger the rule they break the higher the fine is. I think that's fair. It will hopefully stop making these people break the laws. With this code red in place, I am hopeful that this pandemic will be over soon, but only if people cooperate.

    1. You made a great statement! I think the only way that people will learn to respect the guidelines is if they are fined, because people value their money. When someone breaks a COVID-19 rule, what cost do you think the fine should start at?

    2. I think that a reasonable starting price would be 100$

  14. I definitely feel it was the right decision to put Montreal in code red given how the cases of corona keep going up. It’s only going to get worse before it gets better. Although, I feel as if we wouldn't have to be in code red if students weren't permitted to go back to school and stuck to online this way we wouldn't be in this situation once again. By denying entrance to bars, restaurants etc, we are are helping to slightly prevent further cases to appear. I just don't particularly understand the logic of allowing students to go back to school but discourage the idea of social gatherings for 28 days? Wouldn’t you be more likely to catch COVID-19 in a place filled with over 500 people then at a gathering of 5 people? Aside from that, I think people who don't follow the guidelines should be put on house arrest for a certain number of days to teach them that this what's going to happen to everyone if you don't respect the guidelines.

    1. I completely understand what you mean by staying home will slightly prevent the cases of COVID that appear. I also never thought of the difference in people between school and social gatherings. Now I realize that if we can't do social gatherings, we shouldn't have to be in school either and we would probably be better off online.

  15. In my opinion, going into code red is scary because when you think about it, covid has been around for 7 months, and the first time that covid was at its peak, it was scary, and now we're going into that state of panic again. I definitely think that the Quebec premier is making the right decision because covid is getting out of control, and we need to do something about it because if we don't, covid is going to be even worse than the first wave. The easiest way to handle the people who don't follow the guidelines is by arresting them, however, it's not that simple because you can't have cops at every street and it's not like cops can be everywhere at every time.

    1. I feel the same way, you make a really good point about how we can't have police officers everywhere ready to give fines or arrest people. Great blog!! :)

  16. I think the premier is making the right decision. I obviously don’t love the idea of code red but I am trying to make it as normal as possible since we will probably be going in and out of code red’s through the next couple of years. I am okay with the rules they have made so far like keeping schools open, keeping some sports open, etc. To handle people who don’t follow the guidelines the government has put they start making the fines higher for little things. Example: if someone refuses to wear a mask in a store they will be asked to leave and will get a fine of $500. This will force people to start following the protocols and respecting the rules that have been put in place to keep everyone as safe as possible.

    1. I completely agree with the fine thing. People should feel like they have to wear masks anyways but the fines will definitely be another push for the to wear one as well

  17. Honestly I think that going code red was the right decision, one of the reasons why I feel this way may be because it doesn't really affect my life right now because I don't generally have people over during this pandemic mostly just relatives. But that being said that is one of the things that code red does affects me in my life. I do believe that the premier did make the right decision because as I speak there is on million people who have passed away from Covid-19 and we don't want that to increase any more. For the people who don't follow the code red policies I think there punishment should be first a warning then jail time if the break the rules again although that is serious punishments I think it is well called for.

  18. I think code red is a good and a bad thing at the same time. The pros are that fewer people will get sick due to the restrictions put in place for restaurants, stores, gatherings etc. Another pro is that theyre still allowing take out, which means it won't be impossible to get food on one of those nights where you simply can't cook anything. The con to this is that some people are out of work again, which really sucks for small businesses.

    1. I completely agree with your point on the people who can't work. It also puts the economie at risk

  19. I think that it was a good idea to go into code red because I think that if they stayed in yellow more people would get sick because they are all in bars and restaurants together. I don’t think that anyone wants to be in isolation but I do not mind that much, sometimes it's boring because people can’t come over to play video games or whatever. I think that their idea to give out fines is a good but i think that they could do a little bit more to try to prevent social gathering and such because they can’t always see everything that is going on, maybe if they had one person on each street survey to see if anyone is breaking the rules but you would need a lot of people to cover each street.

  20. Moving into CODE RED meant that there would be new guidelines put in place to protect our health and safety. These new guidelines don’t really bother me that much since before CODE RED I wasn’t going to very many places and seeing many people. I think the premier did make the right decision when moving into CODE RED. Since COVID-19 is becoming even worse now and starting to spread again. If moving into CODE RED is going to help then I think that it is the right decision. The people that don’t follow the guidelines in my opinion should not be punished because they are choosing to risk their health and safety at their own risk. Everyone has the right to make their own choices and if they think that they are doing good then let them.

  21. I think that going into a code red was a good idea because it is a method that will help reduce the cases of COVID that are going around. If people stay home and don't go to public places or social gatherings with other people, they'll have less of a chance of getting the virus. I think that the Quebec premier made a good decision to keep everyone home, especially since the cases of COVID are starting to go up again. If people don't follow the rules, I think that they should have to pay a fine or something related to that, because not only are they putting themselves in danger, but others as well.

  22. I do think that it is a good thing that we in the code red, but I also think that they should be taking more precautions to protect students. I think that the government should give the option to parents to chose whether they send their kids to school or do online learning. Because if your parents work from home then they should be able to say that we are going to do school from home, but if your parents have a job where they have to go into the job no matter what then they should be able to send their kids to school to make sure that they keep their job. I do think that the punishments should be increased in severity. If they don't then people will just pay the fine and keep doing the same thing. I personally don't like the idea of indirectly being the cause of someone dying.

  23. I think the code red was a very good idea. A lot of people thought that because restaurants and bars were open that suddenly the virus was over. Those people are the reason that we can’t go see our family and friends anymore and we have to stay home. Personally, I think that we will be sent back in quarantine if things keep going the way they are now. There’s not very much they can do about the people that don’t follow. It’s their choice if they don’t want to follow, but they have to deal with the consequences after. Doing so is not very considerate to the others around you though.

  24. I think that going into code red is a clever idea. I think that the Quebec premier is doing the right thing, basing off the facts that the Covid rates have not been lowering. Although, there are some people that need to have a cheap meal once in while (at for example, McDonalds). These people are also the reason why we're going into code red and why we can't see our friends and family. There are not many ways people can be punished, so I think that the consequences should stay the same, but rather higher the price of their fine.
