For this blog imagine that you are EGEUS, Hermia's father!

He is the only character to not live "happily ever after!"

If you were Egeus, what would you do next?
How would he handle the Duke's decision?
Hermia's defiance?

Explain.
(REMEMBER - I want you to write as if you ARE EGEUS)

  1. If I were Egeus how I think he would have handeled it: I dont want Hermia to marry Lysander (cause im a bad guy) I will not kill her but she is going straight to be a nun so that she can never marry Lysander. I only want her to be with sweet (ugly) Demetrius. I can not exept this because she is my daughter. I think this is how Egeus would have reacted by just saying his facts again and again and trying to change the decison by trying to make this problem come back to Hermia in the future.

    2. This would be a great alternative ending! Although at that point, I think Egeus would be angry enough to be driven to murder his daughter.

If I were Egeus I would have not thought it was ok but deal with it over time. And thought that my little Hermia was gonna grow up in the way she wanted but I couldn't "guide her anymore" especially since the boy I put up for her to marry likes her bestfriend I can't do anything about it. Now she can't blame me for being with the wrong guy. I really guess that my planned failed for her I think that at the bottom of my heart I just wanted her to be happy.

  3. This is how I think Egeus would of handled the situation: This is utterly obscured I hate how my daughter is marrying that disgusting Lysander. She should be wedded to sweet Demetrius. At first I would be disappointed considering the duke didn't agree with me. If I were Egeus I would get my act together and go congratulate Hermia and Lysander. I would also apologise to them for being over controlling and completely loosing my mind.

  4. This is the most ridiculous thing I’ve ever seen. My daughter should not be marrying that joke of a man, Lysander. He is everything that I want my daughter to stay away from. The Duke made an idiotic choice to let my daughter marry that Lysander. I just hate Lysander’s stupid face, and the way my daughter loves him so much. And don’t even get me started on how my daughter completely disobeyed me. I know what I must do, I must kidnap Lysander!

    1. this made me laugh!! i love the way you said to kidnap Lysander, it really seemed like if Egeus were to say that, good details!

    2. What you said that Egeus would is very accurate in my opinion. And something that Egeus would do.

  5. If I say Egues, I would honestly be frustrated that my daughter got married to a man I didn’t approve of. On the other hand, if I was actually Egues, I wouldn't be forcing my daughter to marry someone against her will. I probably would never talk to my daughter again and despise her decision or since it’s so long ago, I would get them killed for disobeying my orders.

  6. I can’t believe that my daughter is going to get married to that useless Lysander. That is the most absurd thing I’ve ever heard. I am very disappointed in the decision the duke has made for my daughter Hermia. I should’ve known he’d make a choice like that. I detest Lysander so much and I detest the way they both love each other. Hermia should have married that boy Demetrius…. He seemed well and acceptable. But it is my daughter so I must accept the fact that she is marrying this odd fellow.

  7. After hearing that my daughter was not only planning on leaving with Lysander to another town and getting married! but now the the duke is legally allowed Hermia and Lysander to get married and Demetrious is now in love with Helena the women that he despises! Athen's laws are a joke now and the new duke is a idiot. Father's should always be allowed to chose who they daughters are to marry and who they can spend time with. Now my plan is to kill Hermia for disobeying me and the law's of Athen's!

  8. I Egeus, will personally crash the royal wedding, I don't care who the king thinks he is at this point, he has deified my opinion. I'd scream at Demetrius for falling in love with Helena instead of my daughter. Next, I'd take a knife and drive it through Lysander's heart, he who has caused me so much pain, and kill Helena with him. With those two out of the picture, Demetrius will be forced to marry Hermia... And I will have my happy ending!

  9. I think egeus would handle the situation by saying this is unacceptable and i completely disagree with this decision. The thought of Lysander and Hermia make me utterly disgusted. If i was Egeus i would handle this situation by attending the wedding and supporting my daughter by being there for her through it all.I would also make sure to give a sincere apology to lysander and i’d respect the beautiful couple, and there growth.

  10. If I where Egeus and was supposed to act in his jerkish character I would probably end up reminding the duke that by the law she should technically have to listen to her father and do what he wants because thats the law. If that does not work I would cut her out of my life forever and never talk to her or Lysander again giving them no financial support whatsoever and hope their marriage fails so she can marry Demetrious

  11. Egeus would probably think this as some big thing against him. Honestly, seeing Egeus fiery behavior, I would probably take a knife and murder Lysander and Theseus. When the duke declined what Egeus had requested, he probably didn't move on. He probably did not handle the dukes reply.

  12. I think Egeus would probably react like this: My terrible daughter has ignored my opinion on who she should marry. Maybe I will cause fights between her and Lysander so she will decide that Demetrious is a better man for her. Or I can just slaughter Lysander myself so she has to marry Demetrious. Or Maybe I should just leave her to live happily with Lysander.

  13. Egeus would totally crash the wedding and be furious. He would probably insult everyone and be an all around jerk. Maybe one day he'd accept his daughters choices but for now he'd just be a dummy. He hopefully would no longer threaten his daughter though, if he does he should work on that....In all, he's not a great guy.

  14. If I were Egeus, I would obviously be mad that my daughter is marrying a boy I don't like. Like I would be pissed, but I think I would just learn to live with it. If it’s making her happy, I guess it’s making me happy. I would just let her do her own thing and mind my own business.

    1. Exactly I think I would learn to accept the fact that I cannot control every part of my daughter's life. Who know's maybe I'd actually end up liking this Lysander boy.

  15. If i were Egeus i would probably run away into the forest like how Hermia and Lysander
did because he would have to see her everyday. At the beginning of the book he threatened to kill Hermia if she didn’t marry Demetrius and now he can’t do anything about it. So if i was Egeus i wouldn’t stay in Athens.

  16. If I were Egeus I would like to say that I would get over it, to accept. However I do not seem like the type of person that easily lets things go. Afterall, I wanted my daughter to either marry a man that she did not love, become a nun or, last but not least, be dead/killed! I very much disagreed with the duke Theseus’s decision, so now I am going to exterminate Lysander for stealing my daughter and also do the same to Demetrius for not going through with my plan. I cannot believe that my daughter would disobey me like that! I only wanted her to be happy (even though she wasn’t), and I thought she was going to be happier with Demetrius, well I wanted to be happier (to be exact).

  17. If I were Egeus I would have probably acted like this: My daughter disobeyed me. I wanted her to marry Demetrius and if she didn’t I wanted her killed. I told that duke what I wanted and he did not do it. I’m her father and I make her choices for her. I want to kill everyone now because I think they have been planning this all along. They have all been wanting me to look like a fool in front of everyone. They all hate me now I will kill them all.

  18. I seriously think that if I were Egeus I would just kind of accept the fact that they are getting married and I really can't change that fact. Now, if I had to have the same mindset as Egeus, then I would probably complain to the Duke about how it was not fair that Hermia got married when I personally said that I didn't consent to my daughter getting married. ( Not that it's his decision whatsoever) If I were to handle the situation that Egeus is in now without his old mindset and in mine, I would probably apologize to Hermia, Lysander, Theseus and Demetrius for trying to force Hermia to marry someone she didn't want too.

  19. If I were Egeus this is how I’d react: This is unacceptable, my own daughter has defied me, and yet she seems to care a great deal for this Lysander. I shall get to know him before I make my final decision, we shall see if he is worthy of my Hermia.

How would he handle the Duke's decision?
4 DAYS?! That is preposterous, he is not fit for my only daughter therefore, they should have 24 hours to decide and no more.

    Hermia's defiance?
I shall give her and alternative, sh either marries Demetrius or I disown her and strip her of her fortunes then she can marry that boy of hers.

  20. If I were Egeus, I would have planned out my revenge. I did not agree with duke's decision. I would go into hiding to make my master plan. Once I had it all planned out, I would make my way to my daughter's house. I would probably not go through with it because I would see her all happy with her new husband, who I still would not approve of. I know it's her decision and I want her to be happy, so i guess maybe I will start to like the idea of her being married to Lysander, but only a little bit.

  21. If I was Egeus:
"How dare my own daughter, Hermia betray me by disobeying me to marry the dumb man she has fallen for, Lysander. I'm gonna go talk to the duke to convince him to stop you all for having your happy ending." *dramatic storms off to the duke*
"Your majesty, I request an execution of my own daughter and her lover, Lysander. Your majesty, my daughter have disrespected me by marrying a horrible, rude, disrespectful man. ACCORDING TO THE ATHENIAN LAW, I can request an execution of my own daughter."
Theseus ignores him and continue the party and the three weddings.
Egeus feeling worthless decides to storm off into the forest, never to be seen again.

  22. If I were Egeus in this situation, I would probably start complaining and try to convince the duke to cancel the wedding between Hermia and Lysander. Probably start talking about how the Athenian Law says that a child must respect their father's decisions about their marriage. Eventually, I would just get over it, realizing that there is nothing I can to to change these people's minds.
