A teacher was FIRED last week!
The teacher was fired for repeatedly using the "N-word" in class while teaching history.
The teacher felt that it was a way to express feelings to what happened in history!
What role do teachers have in your society?
Should teachers censor topics that deal with controversial topics?
Explain.
Teachers should definitely be able to talk about racism moments in history but in a respectful way. The teacher who said the n word was defiantly getting to interested into the topic and becoming political. The time that I can assume the man was describing was when black people were treated horribly but instead of using this word we should be celebrating how rights improved and how we can keep improving. This teacher was way out of line by insulting his students and shouldn't be allowed to teach people into thinking the same racist thoughts as him. Especially if they were in a zoom class and this teacher is swearing. People's families could of heard, little kids could of heard to. This teacher should be more educated on how to educate people.
ReplyDeleteI definetly agree that racism is a topic that all students should be more educated about, but in a RESPECTFUL way, and there shouldn't be any disrespect when talking about this topic.
DeleteI think that in our society, teachers have a very important role because they have to teach us how to achieve, how to understand things that you see in your everyday life, etc. And then there are certain teachers, such as history teachers that have a very very important role which is teaching us about history. This teacher that used the “n-word” had one of those roles, however, he completely disrespected everybody in that class, and honestly everyone else because using the “n-word” is not a way of expressing yourself. I think that teachers should be setting a good example for their students, and that does not include saying the “n-word” or any disrespectful word like that for that matter. It really disgusts me that teachers like that just think that it’s okay to say stuff like that because they think that it’s “a way of expressing themselves”, but unfortunately, there are most likely more teachers like that.

DeleteI think that it's very important for us to learn about sensitive topics in history, like the usage of the n-word, but I find it very unecessary and very disrespectuful to actually say it unless you are african-american. The usage of any slur while teaching isn't right in my opinion (n-word, f-slur, r-slur, etc). The fact that this teacher continously said it shouldn't be aloud.

DeleteI think teachers play an important role in our society. They help us learn and succeed so that we can be the best we can in the future. They help us with things we don't understand or what we never knew. Teachers will always be important because if we had no teachers then we wouldn't have a great change of success. for our future. Teachers expressing themselves and the topic in class, like history teachers, is important but there is a line where it becomes inappropriate with bad language. I think teachers should express feelings when they are teaching to engage the students but they should do it respectfully and in a proper fashion because again its school and they are teaching younger students. I find that the n-word is disrespectful to a lot of people and there are kinder words to use and teachers should definitely censor some topics that are inappropriate for school.

DeleteI think teachers truly are the backbone of society. They are role models to children, offer guidance and dedication and give young people the power and chance of education. Because of teachers, countries are able to further develop socially and economically. Teaching about controversial issues in the classroom can provide a safe place for students to ask questions, express their fears, learn how to listen to one another, and deal with the difficult topics of pluralism, etc. But whilst teaching about this they must be respectful and consider what they're going to say and how they’re going to express it.

DeleteTeachers have a role to teach and educate kids to explore creativity in the right way. Teachers also teach students to develop into mature adults, to grow physically, mentally, emotionally. Teachers can help students express themselves in the right way. What this teacher did here was a mistake that he made and he kept repeating himself. That I'll never forgive. Teachers should know when to censor a topic by making foreshadowing of why the topic should never be said. An example of why sometimes controversial topics should be said is politics. It's definitely has controversy behind it, but we should know at least the basics of it.

DeleteSaying the n word is no way to way to explain history. It is so rude and disrespectful what this teacher did. I think that teachers play a pretty important role in our society mostly because you spend a lot of your time with them. Because you are with them for such a long time, sometimes their behaviour can influence how their students act. I do think that teachers should teach controversial topics but respectively because it is important. The teacher can't use the excuse for saying the n word because of a controversial topic because that is no excuse. The teacher was just plain racist.

DeleteTeachers are really important to our world because they are the ones what teach and develop our future generation. Teachers are also "most of the time" really good in their domain so they know strategies to get their message across. What this teacher did was just wrong, and the way she taught this clearly wasen' t the best. I think these subjects should be taught though. Of course without saying bad words during the lesson.

DeleteI believe teachers are there to help you learn. They help shape you to become a better person. I don’t think teachers should not teach a certain subject for instance a part of history because it mentions a bad event. Instead I think teachers should teach the topic with better language because if teachers don’t teach that topic then there is a chance that the situation could be repeated and that in most cases it is not a good thing.
ReplyDeleteWhen you were describing what teachers are in society the phrase "They help shape you to become a better person" was a great way to put it. Also I agree that they should continue teaching these topics but watch the profanity but even then should not change what happened.
DeleteTeachers are extremely important in society because they are the main way of passing information down to younger generations, they are probably the most reliable source of information for their subject out of all of the possible sources. Because of the fact that teachers are so important, I do not think it was appropriate what so ever to be using the n word in class. It does not matter if the teacher was teaching history, they should atleast censor it or not use it at all. If people see a teacher saying it without concern, people might start using it more and that would be extremely rude and disrespectful, so I think it was good that he was fired.

DeleteI think that teachers are very important in our society because they're the ones who are passing down useful information to us, and how we learn from generations before us. I feel that it is very important to cover more sensitive topics because we must learn and know what is right and wrong. Offensive words should never be used in teaching, or anywhere! And it's extremely disrespectful to the students who could be of colour. It could also make other younger students think it's okay to use those words because it is being repeated so many times.

Especially the younger generation. So in this case throwing around the n word like that is not just totally wrong and disrespectful. She is teaching others and showing others that it is ok to do that when it is absolutely not.

DeleteTeachers play an important part in society, dedicating most of their time to teaching annoying kids, but they shouldn't abuse their power. They shouldn't use their positions to make kids feel uncomfortable or hurt. Some teachers you can rely one, and some you can't and to be honest thats just how life works sometimes. Contreversial topics should be taught in an appropriate safe matter as oppose to an offensive one.

DeleteTeachers have an important role in our society today. They have to educate all students from 5 to 25 years old. they are how every person in society learns a lot of there knowledge they will use for the rest of there life. This why teachers have to teach the right information and teach speak politely. Students, especially young students, will learn not only the subject but also how the teacher acts. I don't think teachers should swear while they teach the subject.
ReplyDeleteI think that teachers definitely have the right to talk about these kinds of things but in an appropriate manner. They need to be respectful of this kind of topic because this can be really sensitive to many other people. But using the n-word to explain that sort of topic is really disrespectful and really impolite. Teachers especially should not be treating and talking about people like that, because some teachers influence and play a big role in a student’s life. Which means it can influence the students as well to act the same way as that disrespectful teacher. But for sure, teachers should censor some topics that are too inappropriate and sensitive for school.

I don’t think teachers should stop teaching about censor topics, I think that they should just do it in a respectful way. I think it also really matters that the teacher doesn’t try to change the minds of the student

DeleteTeachers in our society are the people who give students/people knowledge and when you think about it teachers are one of the main components of society because teachers teach people a specific skill or study and then those people start working and having jobs and they use that knowledge to do their jobs. Teachers should teach controversial topics like the example that was given but when it becomes too uncomfortable and you want them to stop, teaching should and try to teach each other parts of that subject. We need teachers to teach those uncomfortable topics or controversial topics because if we don't then we might repeat the same mistakes which is the point of teaching history.
ReplyDeleteTeachers are a huge influence to kids in society because other than parents, teachers are probably one of the adults that a child spends the most time with. They are also very influential because since they spend all this time with the kid, they can impact them negatively or positively in weeks, if not days. I feel teachers should teach kids these topics because kids need to learn about how people were and still are mistreated, however, i feel like repeatedly using slurs does not teach kids about the subject and instead implies to the children (who are impressionable) that using slurs are okay, which is a very negative impact on the student and the people around the student, which is not right.

DeleteTeachers are supposed to be role models for children and young adults. They offer guidance and dedicate their time to give young people the power of education. There are certain topics that some may find harder to talk about but it’s also important to talk about them nonetheless. Learning about our history and why there are certain things we should NOT say or do (saying the n word and slurs) is important if we want society to continue to move forward and treat everyone equally. It doesn’t matter who you are, it will never be acceptable to be racist, homophobic, etc. We should always continue to teach people about these topics if we want to ensure a better future for everyone.

It does not matter if he was using it to explain what happened in history it was extremely unprofessional and there is no excuse for using a hateful word. Teachers have a huge impact in society, they are the ones who educate children, teens and adults on many things in life. The youth of society listen to the information that teachers give and remember it to pass on. I do not think teacher's should censor topics but should make sure they explain them in a respectful way

DeleteWhat the teacher did was horrible. Just because that was a word used in history, does not mean it's okay to say. Yes you can teach about it, but not like that. The teacher had absolutely no right to used that word. And even if he did, you're a teacher. You shouldn't be saying that in front of your students. You're supposed to set and example for them, not teach them that saying slurs is okay. I think the teacher being fired was a great decision made by the school.
ReplyDeleteI think that what this teacher did was just wrong. Even if it was a word used back in history, it doesn't mean that you can use the word like that. Teachers are the people who educate us and make sure we are on the right path in life to being successful. They are like role models to their students, and the students will remember the things that they are taught. I don't think that these topics should be censored, but they should make sure that they teach things respectfully.
