There has been much discussion about re-starting extra-curricular activities!

Do you feel that schools should re-start extra-curricular activities?

Would you participate in any of the extra-curricular activities should they resume?

What are some of the concerns about starting extra-curricular activities again?

Are you hoping that ALL extra-curricular activities resume next year, including trips?

Explain.

  1. I would like to have extra curricular activities back although there still is Covid and it would be tricky to do. Especially in sports, because have you have to play against other schools therefore Covid can spread quick and can hit a lot of people at once. It's also pretty hard to play with a mask on. I would love to resume the activities but it would be hard. I'm really sad we won't be able to take the trips this year ans the next. I think it's to soon to take trips because some of them are even on the other side of the world and can be dangerous.

    2. I agree, playing with a mask on is hard

  2. I don't know how I feel about schools re-opening the extra-curricular activities. I think it would be nice if they did, but only some of them where they stay with the COVID-19 safety rules. I also think it might be a little too early. It depends on how badly I would want to do the activity for me to actually join. Maybe next year, if things are somewhat normal they could open sports and other activities, but travelling, it'll probably still be too early.

    1. I agree travelling is way to early so are the activities.

  3. As much as it would be fun if we started extra-curricular activities, I don't think it would help the covid cases at all. I probably wouldn't start in any of them because I've personally never found interest in any of them, but starting them would mean that more people come into contact which isn't good. I really want trips back back it's not a good idea to travel.

    2. You make a great point when you say that restarting extra-curricular activities can cause a potential uprise in covid cases. Great blog!

  4. I feel like now things are starting to open up and so should extra-curricular activities. I would like to participate in all of the activities if they were to return. The only good thing about school is the extra-curricular activities and without them it’s boring. Some of the concerns about starting extra-curricular activities that I have is the safeness of it. There will be a lot of people in one area which could potentially become dangerous. Also, meeting and playing with other schools would be hard to organize.

  5. I would love to have our extra curricular activities again but I don't think it's ever gonna happen because Covid still is around but it really is unfortunate how we don't get our sports teams and our bands and drum line and our field trips like how we were supposed to go to Boston. I don't think starting again with the activities are good but if it's just minuscule activities that u can social distance and wear masks maybe like the musical activities like band and drum line. If covid wasn't still existent I would want to try trying out for basketball and soccer. I really do hope it becomes safe enough to resume activities again and maybe even get lockers again but we would need to at least be trusted with lockers before we start activities.

    1. I agree that not all the activities should restart just the smaller ones where we will be able to social distance and wear masks. Great blog!

  6. I feel that the extra curricular activities should start again, what else do people have to do? I mean, unfortunately Covid is still around after a full year which makes me wonder, how many years will it actually stay for. I would definitely join an activity if they resume, I have had not much to do for so so long and it would be great to get back up on my feet again. Some of the concerns I would have are playing against other schools, wouldn't that spread Covid? That is what I am mostly worried about, because then more schools shuts down which is scary. I am hoping that some activities open next year, just to be safe, and we need the exercise other than just gym class.

  7. I would love for extra curricular activities to start again it would be so fun, but at the same time it is still taking risks for something that is not "necessary". If they would restart then yes of course I would join. But yeah doing these activities can also be taking risks for "no reason". It would be great if next year all the activities come back.

    1. I still think the risks are too high and it would be stupid to jeopardize how far we've come. Great blog!

  8. I would love for schools to re-start extra-curricular activities but unfortunately I don’t think it would be the smartest idea. I would love to participate in the flag football for girls but considering how many people would touch the football and all the contamination I would not. Plus my mom has some lungs problems so I have to be extra careful for her. Depending on the status of cases and covid in general I would hope that the extra-curricular activities and trips would resume next year.

  9. honestly having extra curricular activities be reinstated would be amazing, however it doesn't seem like the smartest idea due to the existence of Covid-19. It is probably smart to reinstate them however, as long as they don't break covid regulations, as extra-curricular activities can boost morale. We also have to consider the fact that some people are at risk, and that would leave them not being able to participate in the activities and make them feel left out. I would definitely do activities if they reinstate it though, as I've been very bored due to Covid locking everything down. As long as covid is gone, I think it's fine to bring back all types of activities and field trips.

    1. i agree with your statements, reinstating the extra-curricular activities will for sure help everyone for the thought of how we've been in lockdown most of the time, it's good to have a sense that we'll be able to do more things outside of staying home all the time. great blog!

  10. I really don't have a big opinion on re-starting extra-curricular activities, I mean if the school wants to they can. If they do open the activities, I mean I would participate in a few of them, if my friends do them with me or if the activities really interests me! Some of my concerns about activities that has some of the activities with physical movements, people might get COVID from tackling one and the other and i'm really scared about that.. I hope the extra-curricular activities come by next year, i really really wanna go on field trips :D

  11. It would be pretty great to have extra-curricular activities to start again but I don't think that it would really be the smartest thing to do with this whole pandemic, because in the extra-curricular activities, you kind of interact with a lot of people and things like that so it would be hard, and also because most of these activities, you have to go to different schools to compete against them as well, so that would be a lot of interaction which isn't a good idea for the thought of this pandemic right now. I would love it if they reinstated the extra-curricular activities including trips but I definitely think it's the wrong time for this for the next few years or so.

  12. i don't really care whether or not after school activities start up again because st.thomas doens't really have mnay good options. also, i have to take care of my dog after school so for me, it doesn't really matter.

  13. I don’t think that extra-curricular activities should reopen because Covid is still around and it doesn’t seem like it’s going away. At most if they do re-open I don’t think all of them should reopen just the ones that you could social distance and wear masks. I hope that by next year Covid is gone or that the regulations are no longer in place so that we can resume extracurricular activities and field trips.

  14. If extra-curricular activities would start up again I would definitely be involved. I would always look forward to extra-curricular activities but since Covid, I hadn't gotten to do them. As much as I'd love the idea of doing all this fun stuff again I don't think it's a great idea. I think we should at least wait until the summer to start things again because that's when the cases start to go down. It would also be hard to do sports again because it's very difficult to wear a mask and be moving around. Also if you are playing against other people, from other schools and they've seen other people too, that's being in contact with A LOT of people.

  15. I really don't care much for extra-curricular activities. I think that it could be a good idea to have people socialize and reopen them since socializing is hard enough with covid, but it would also be kind of risky because if one person gets covid the whole group of them have a chance at it which can spread to different bubbles if you aren't careful. I probably wouldn't do extra-curricular activities because I would rather be doing something else but it would be nice to have them just in case anyone ever wanted to join.

    1. that is true everyone has kinda been sticking with the same people

    2. Ya if we did extra curricular activities Covid-19 would spread much easier.

  16. I think that it would be a bad idea to restart extra curricular activities because it makes kids from other bubbles come together. I think the biggest concern would be mixing bubbles because people from different bubbles will be together mostly inside and that will make the virus spread fast from bubble to bubble. I think that by next year extra curricular activities and trips will resume because hopefully by then everyone will get the vaccine and we can forget about all the COVID protocols.

  17. Of course they should restart doing extra curricular activities and if they came back I would a hundred percent participate in one of the activities probably something like golf which I didn't think existed at this school but apparently it does. When restarting these extra curricular activities there are always most likely you'll meet other people in your school or outside your school who are not in your group so there are pandemic issues. I really hope that all activities resume next year especially trips because it's great to explore a new surrounding and in High School they have probably one of the best field trips through your education years of course.

  18. I don't think it's a good idea to allow extra curricular activities because it won't help the spreading of the virus. Most extra curricular activities have to do with people, and that right now, is not good. Especially with the new variants. If extra curricular activities did resume, I would probably do a few. They are fun. I would be kind of concerned if we started extra curricular activities. We haven't gotten to many cases recently but we shouldn't put our guard down. If we get too relaxed, we might go through another wave. I am hoping that we get extra curricular activities and trips because we have missed enough this year.

  19. I don't really think that it would be a good idea to restart all of the extra-curricular activities, because I feel like it would just make us go backwards, and take away steps that we've taken to protect ourselves and others. I probably wouldn't join any extra-curriculars if they we're to happen this year, unless they were something I wouldn't have to do irl and could do online. I think that some risks are obviously that it could help spread covid, but also it would help it travel across bubbles. I think that they should re-open extra-curriculars next year, but I don't think that it is safe enough to be able to do them this year, it just wouldn't be safe.

  20. I personally think school should definitely restart extracurricular activities especially Sports and the big on trips. I would definitely participate in sports if they resumed specifically flag football and soccer And I would definitely participate in trips like the Boston when we were supposed to have. Of course they still are a whole bunch of concerns covid-19 Like mixing Bubbles and playing against other schools but I think lots of these concerns can be solved with some thinking And everyone's cooperation. I'm very much hoping everything will resume next year.

  21. I think schools should start extracurricular activities next year. It's really important for all of us to feel involved in school and participate in activities. It really makes going to school more enjoyable because you feel like you have more of a purpose at school. The social aspect is also really great and meeting new people helps you feel involved in the school more. I would love to bring back school trips. They are such a great bonding experience and just a great experience and memory overall. Like I mentioned before they make going to school more enjoyable and give us something to look forward too and to give us more of a purpose.
